Destiny by Wendy Gray

Emma Davenport was going to be a bride, and no one was going to stop her, not even an outlaw. When the Capitol’s most notorious rake sweeps the prim Senator’s daughter off her feet, Emma isn’t about to forsake her charming suitor after her father runs him out of town. Bound for St. Louis and a forbidden marriage to her father’s sworn enemy, Emma’s scheme shatters when she is abducted by a daring outlaw. Any proper young woman would be frightened out of her wits, but the longing her infuriating, courageous captor stirs in her heart fuels her determination to make it to the man she plans to marry. Unwilling to wait to be rescued or ransomed, she challenges her abductor at every turn as she plans her escape.

Major Jack Travis was accustomed to the battlefield, not stealing spoiled, sheltered young women from trains, but his orders have come directly from one of the most powerful men in Washington. It is Jack Travis’s mission to make sure Emma Davenport does not complete her journey to marry her black-hearted fiancĂ©. Disguised as an outlaw, he kidnaps Emma and spirits her away to a remote cabin.

Major Travis never doubted his ability to carry out orders until he laid eyes on Emma Davenport. His captive is intelligent, headstrong, beautiful – and forbidden to him. He risks his neck to protect her from the treacherous rake she’d planned to marry. But how can he protect her from himself?

Second Place
Wounded Hearts by Jolan Bishop

Too late! Dr. Grant Austin watches in horror as a wagon barrels over an unsuspecting woman in a Chicago street. Unable to prevent the accident, his self-inflicted guilt leads him to insist the woman be taken to his home. When she awakes two days later, he learns that she had lost her family and home in the Great Fire only a few weeks earlier—and now has likely lost her job as a result of the accident. Grant struggles to make sure she is not turned out onto the street—and to deny his growing attraction for the raven-haired beauty with the Irish brogue. But would such a sweet woman want anything to do with him if she knew the truth?

Nothing. That's what Siobhan O'Malley remembers of the accident that left her severely injured—only that she was crossing the street and awoke to find herself in a home even grander than the one where she works as a maid. Starstruck though she is by her surroundings, Siobhan can't help but notice how handsome the doctor is. How can a simple housemaid possibly catch the eye of a wealthy physician?

Fourth Place
The French Were Here First by Mary Tomas

The last place Caroline expects to find love is in a walled enclave amid the new American wilderness. She chafes at the restrictions of living in the Fort named after her, and refuses to share her father’s pride in establishing the first French settlement in the new country. France practically calls to her with its lush vineyards and fancy parties. Instead, she’s stuck with two dresses and chores unbefitting her station.

A French aristocrat dispatched Jacques to Fort Caroline to paint the settlement and the surrounding wilderness. Jacques paints Caroline, including her alluring figure in his landscapes and dreams of an opportunity to paint her portrait. His brush can show his love for her splendor.

Their chance arrives when most of the soldiers sail back to France for supplies, leaving only a small cadre behind to defend the Fort. With Caroline’s father gone, new freedom settles over the Fort. In the new milieu, Caroline revels in the attention of the dashing artist. Their joy is short-lived when the Spanish attack the underprotected Fort. Can their love survive as they fight for their lives?
